Welcome to Our New Graduate Students: Shirley Zhang and Kexuan Yuan

We are excited to welcome Shirley Zhang and Kexuan Yuan, who have recently begun their Master’s degrees in our research group. We wish them every success in their studies and look forward to their accomplishments in the program.

Shirley is a graduate student in the Industrial Engineering group. With a background in Wood Products Processing, she brings both technical lab experience and a strong interest in operations research to her work in the forest products sector. Beyond research, she enjoys hiking and exploring natural landscapes, which keep her grounded and continually inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world she studies. Shirley also practices clay art as a creative outlet and a way to slow down from the pace of academic life.

Kexuan completed her Bachelor’s degree in Wood Products Processing at both Beijing Forestry University and the University of British Columbia. She is eager to gain deeper insight into industrial engineering, optimization, and modelling. In her free time, Kexuan enjoys playing badminton, practicing calligraphy, running, hiking, listening to music, and painting.
